At Caen we have two Year 1 and two Year 2 classes. Year 1 are taught by Mrs Darling and Mrs Laverty and Mrs Symcox; and Year 2 are taught by Miss Read and Mr Preston. The children will also be taught weekly by Mr Harvey for computing and Miss Fogarty for PE. You can download the current term's learning overview below. For English the children are taught in smaller groups through Read Write Inc by their teachers or our experienced HLTAs. All of our staff have received RWInc training. The teachers review these groupings regularly and by the end of the Autumn Termn in Year 2 the children are taught in their classes for English.

For maths the school is planning using the White Rose scheme of work (http://www.whiterosemaths.com) and teachers also use a variety of other resources such as Nrich ( http://nrich.maths.org ) and the National Centre for the Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics ( http://www.nctem.org.uk ). These sites all have free to download resources and materials should parents be interested and all the White Rose Maths materials are free to download. On the Nrich site you can search by maths topic or age.

For reading we encourage children to challenge themselves with the Pie Corbett Reading Spine. Pie Corbett is recognised as one of the pre-eminent educationalists with regards to literacy and he has selected appropriate books for every age group. These can be found on the Scholastic site here: https://www.scholastic.co.uk/piecorbett/resources . Below we have also included recommended reads for each year group - these are all high quality texts that will give your child a rich and varied diet.

If you would like any further information about the curriculum please make an appointment to see your child's teacher in the first instance.

Homework builds up but starts with a range of suggested maths activities and games that relate to your child's curriculum. They can be played at home with your child. Topic homework will be set in the second half term each term and will consist of a more detailed project. We also ask that you hear your children read (daily if possible) and remind them to complete their reading diary. If your child reads at least five times a week and you hear and sign their reading diary they will receive a raffle ticket. Class winners are selected every few weeks and they receive a book voucher
