Caen Community Primary School

What is a PTA (Parent Teachers Association)?  

• A PTA is an organisation with a mission to make the school a better place for children to learn. A PTA will bring together parents, teachers, and children to raise funds and strengthen the school community.  

• The PTA is registered and run as a charity with all funds going back into making school life better for the kids. 

• Money raised is usually spent on things that the school budget does not cover - such as trips, equipment, extra-curricular activities etc. Look out for communications on where the money raised goes throughout the year.    

• All parents and carers are automatically members of the PTA when their child enrols in the school. 

• What it is not - The PTA does not get involved with the educational aspect of the school - this is left to the school and governing body.   

Who are we? 

As mentioned above everybody with children at the school is part of the PTA. We have a small committee who take the lead in managing the charity, connecting directly with the school, and coordinating what we do.  The current PTA committee are: 

Claire Appleby: Co-Chair and mum to Hamish (year 2) and Eadie (Reception) 

Amy Selby:  Co-Chair and mum to Jago (year 4) and Heath (year 2) 

Beccy Soderlund: Treasurer and mum to Alfie (year 4) and Hugo (tear 2) 

Kath Saunders: Secretary and mum to Rudy (year 4) 

We are always looking for people to help with the PTA - as much or as little as they like, so please get in touch if you are happy to get involved.  Examples of things that you can support with are: 

- helping on the day to run events (sports days, cake/uniform sales, raffles, summer fairs, Christmas bazaars etc.) 

- helping to plan for and set up events (all creativity and/or time welcome!) 

- gathering and sorting donations from local businesses and families  

- sharing PTA updates and events with your school and community networks 

- graphic design for communications and event materials
