Year 1 Transition Information and Photos
At Caen we have one Year 1 class taught by Mrs Sim. The children are also taught weekly by Mr Harvey for computing, Mrs Kliem for RE and Mr Venn for PE.
For maths, the school is planning using the White Rose scheme of work ( https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ ) and teachers also use a variety of other resources such as Nrich ( http://nrich.maths.org ) and the National Centre for the Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics ( http://www.nctem.org.uk ). These sites all have free to download resources and materials should parents be interested and all the White Rose Maths materials are free to download. On the Nrich site you can search by maths topic or age.
For reading ,Y1 (like YR) follow the Read Write Inc. phonics scheme. Books and sounds are sent home weekly and please support your child's development by hearing them read daily at home. We also encourage children to challenge themselves with the Pie Corbett Reading Spine. Pie Corbett is recognised as one of the pre-eminent educationalists with regards to literacy and he has selected appropriate books for every age group. These can be found on the Scholastic site here: https://www.scholastic.co.uk/piecorbett/resources . Below we have also included recommended reads for each year group - these are all high quality texts that will give your child a rich and varied diet. Oxford Owl have opened up their online reading platform for all here: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/ . Devon Libraries has a a wealth of ebooks and they can be found here: https://librariesunlimited.overdrive.com/ .

Home Learning for Year 1
Please bring your child's bookbag into school every Monday. We ask that parents read with their child at least 5 times a week, until the children know their RWI book very well.
Spellings to learn each week will be sent home in book bags. Spellings are tested on Fridays each week. See below for weekly spelling lists.
